๐Ÿ’€ How to celebrate Day of the Dead in Playa del Carmen

Published 8 months agoย โ€ขย 1 min read

Itโ€™s officially the start of spooky season and I couldnโ€™t be more excited! ๐Ÿ‘ป

While itโ€™s not quite sweater weather in Playa del Carmen, I still love to see the Day of the Dead decorations start to pop up around town.

The holiday is officially celebrated on November 1-2 but the main festivities start around the end of October.

If you happen to be visiting Playa del Carmen during this time, here are a few of the best ways you can celebrate:

Attend the Festival of Life and Death Traditions

This annual event at Xcaret Park is pretty much the top event for Day of the Dead in Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya.

It's a nightly event that takes place from Oct 30-Nov 3 and youโ€™ll get to see altars, cultural exhibits, and a variety of music and dance performances.

It's very cool and really well done! You can learn more and book tickets online here.

Watch the Catrina Parade

Another popular event in Playa del Carmen is the Catrina Parade that takes place at Quinta Alegria Shopping Mall.

I'll be honest, this parade is pretty small compared to other cities in Mexico but it's still worth checking out if you're in town.

It's colorful and lively and you can even get your face painted like a Catrina.

Try Traditional Pan de Muerto

Traditional "Pan de Muerto" (Day of the Dead bread) is a must-try during this time.

You can find it at most bakeries, coffee shops, and supermarkets in Playa del Carmen.

It's a sweet bread topped with sugar and typically decorated with bones and skulls to represent the deceased.

It's my go-to treat whenever I'm working at a coffee shop!

For more details about these events and the holiday in general, be sure to read my full blog post on the Day of the Dead festivities in Playa del Carmen.

Even if you're not visiting Mexico during this time, it's still interesting to learn about the cultural significance of this vibrant holiday!

As always, if you have any questions or need any help with your Mexico travel plans, feel free to hit reply and let me know!

I read every email and Iโ€™m always happy to help.

ยกHasta pronto!

Allison

I can't believe it's already the middle of November. It's hard to think about the upcoming holidays when it's still so warm and sunny here in Playa del Carmen! Last week, my mom came to visit me and we went to Cozumel for a few days. We stayed at Hotel B Unique, which is a boutique adults only hotel located right on the water. The views are absolutely incredible, and we couldn't get enough of the oceanfront infinity pool. You can read my full review here for all the details! Unfortunately,...
