🤑 My fave ways to save money on Riviera Maya travel

Published 9 months ago • 2 min read

I can’t believe it’s already one week into August. I returned from my stay at Barceló Maya Riviera last week only to find that the power was out at my apartment 😩

So the last few days have been a struggle…I haven’t had a chance to write up my review yet but I promise it’s coming soon! I had a really great time and I can’t wait to share it with you.

This week I wanted to share a few quick money-saving tips!

Riviera Maya is definitely not the cheapest place to travel in Mexico so here are some awesome ways you can SAVE SOME MONEY.

Yep. I’m giving you some cheapo travel tips today. I don’t usually blog about budget travel but who doesn’t like to save a little money?!

Money Saving Tip #1

Instead of booking an all-inclusive resort, consider staying in a vacation rental–there are tons of really nice condo buildings in Playa del Carmen!

My parents did this the last time they came to visit me and it was WAY more affordable. Plus, their condo still had an amazing pool and a private beach!

And if you stay in downtown Playa del Carmen, it’s very walkable and you can check out the local restaurant scene, shopping, and the lively 5th Avenue.

I recommend searching for vacation rentals on VRBO, as they are usually cheaper than all the crazy fees you’ll see on Airbnb.

Money Saving Tip #2

Another great way to save is by taking the ADO airport bus instead of a private airport transfer from Cancun Airport.

While I normally recommend Cancun Airport Transportation (because it’s the fastest and most convenient option), the ADO bus is much more budget-friendly and is still very comfortable.

It will take you from the Cancun Airport to the ADO Station in downtown Playa del Carmen, then you can walk or take a taxi to your hotel. You can read my full ADO guide for more details.

Money Saving Tip #3

Lastly, don't forget to check out and bookmark my Xcaret Resource Hub for current Xcaret coupons.

If you’re interested in visiting any of the Xcaret adventure parks, these coupon codes can help to save some money on tickets.

There are currently some great deals where you can get 15% off tickets for most of the parks.

Hope these quick tips help to save you some money on your Mexico vacation!

Do you have any money saving hacks that I didn’t share? Hit reply and let me know!

iHasta pronto!

Allison

P.S. If a vacation rental is not your style, Xcaret Hotels and Barceló Hotels are running some last-minute summer deals!

Traveling to Mexico soon?

These are the Mexico travel resources I use and recommend:

✈️ Flights: Skyscanner

🚗 Rental Cars: Discover Cars

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: Cancun Airport Transportation

🤿 Tours & Activities: Viator or GetYourGuide

I can't believe it's already the middle of November. It's hard to think about the upcoming holidays when it's still so warm and sunny here in Playa del Carmen! Last week, my mom came to visit me and we went to Cozumel for a few days. We stayed at Hotel B Unique, which is a boutique adults only hotel located right on the water. The views are absolutely incredible, and we couldn't get enough of the oceanfront infinity pool. You can read my full review here for all the details! Unfortunately,...

I wish I could say I had some creative costume plans but to be honest, ever since I moved to Mexico, I've been more excited about Day of the Dead.
